5th Generation Computerized Refraction System

Our office uses the latest digital refraction equipment to determine the best prescription for your individual needs.  We use a smart card system to transfer all vital numbers and measurements from our pretest room into Dr. Mirkin's office and refraction system.  The results are then electronically transferred into our computer system using this new technology to give you the clear, comfortable vision that you require for your daily activities.

Advanced Glaucoma Testing and Treatment

Our Topcon Maestro 2 Retinal Camera and OCT (optical coherence tomography) is the latest, most advanced technology to view and analyze the retina. Similar to ultrasound, OCT uses light rather than sound waves.  More advanced than retinal photography (which can only view the surface of the retina) the OCT enables us to view the individual layers of the retina. The scan is non-invasive, painless, simple and quick.

The scan the OCT provides is so detailed that it can pick up the very earliest signs of glaucoma - damage to the microscopic nerve fibers in the back of your eye. This makes it possible to pick up glaucoma before it affects your sight, and indeed before it is detectable using more traditional techniques. This makes OCT the definitive screening tool currently available for this condition.

The OCT provides us with highly useful information about several areas of your eye and retina. For example, it is capable of detecting small areas of swelling that can occur at the back of your eye in macular degeneration, as well as small retinal holes, tears or cysts that may be present and not visible with traditional techniques.

Cataract

Cataract

Cataracts are slow, painless loss of central vision usually accompanied by a change in eyeglass prescription and increased glare.  Diabetes and high blood pressure may cause bleeding in the retina.  Macular degeneration or Glaucoma, cause other types of damage. Only a careful eye examination can pick up these early signs of problems so that you can make changes to ensure your future health.
